Classic Cello Prizewinner Artyom Ioanisyan Performs Recital at CellEAST International Competition
On 28 May 2026, the Armenian cellist joined forces with renowned Spanish pianist Josu Okiñena for a special recital presented as part of the CellEAST International Competition, one of Eastern Europe's leading events dedicated exclusively to the cello. The festival brought together young talents, distinguished artists, masterclasses, and competition activities in Bucharest between 27 May and 8 June.
Already enjoying a breakthrough year, Ioanisyan came to Bucharest shortly after his success at the Classic Cello International Competition in London, where he was awarded Third Prize following a series of outstanding performances at the Royal College of Music.
The recital with Josu Okiñena offered audiences the opportunity to experience Ioanisyan's artistry in an intimate chamber music setting, highlighting the musical maturity, expressive depth, and technical command that have earned him recognition on the international stage. Performing alongside an artist of Okiñena's stature further underlined the growing esteem in which the young Armenian cellist is held.
The appearance in Bucharest formed part of an increasingly successful season for Ioanisyan. Just weeks later, he achieved another major international distinction by winning Third Prize at the 2026 Khachaturian International Competition in Yerevan, receiving a cash award of $3,000 as well as a future concert engagement with the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra.
With significant achievements in London, Bucharest, and Yerevan all within the same season, Artyom Ioanisyan continues to establish himself as one of the most promising young cellists of his generation, building a career marked by competition success, international concert appearances, and growing artistic recognition.
