Classic Cello Prizewinner Elliot Sloss Awarded Fourth Prize at the Irving M. Klein International String Competition
The competition took place at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, with the semifinal round held on 6 June 2026 and the finals and awards ceremony on 7 June 2026.
Sloss was selected as one of only eight semifinalists chosen from a record field of 150 applicants worldwide. Representing Canada, the 22-year-old cellist competed alongside some of the most promising young string players of his generation.
During the semifinal round on 6 June, Sloss performed a demanding programme featuring Suzanne Sorkin's Fused for solo cello, Bach's Suite No. 6 in D Major, and the final movement of Elgar's Cello Concerto.
The Irving M. Klein International String Competition is one of North America's most respected competitions for young string musicians, known for identifying artists at the beginning of major international careers. Sloss's Fourth Prize finish further strengthened an already impressive season that included his success at the Classic Cello International Competition in London.
With significant results on both sides of the Atlantic, Elliot Sloss continues to establish himself as one of Canada's most promising young cellists.
